Despite the balmy weather we’ve experienced here in Boston the last couple days, there’s no denying that the holiday season has arrived; Thanksgiving dinner is in the works, Christmas lights are up and Home Alone is playing on TV.
That also means it’s time to start thinking about gifts for friends, family and even your office Secret Santa. If someone on your shopping list is prone to spending hours in the kitchen and collecting cookbooks, then these gifts are guaranteed to be their cup of tea (quite literally, in the first case).
1. Tea and coffee jugs by Stelton
I first discovered Danish home décor brand Stelton at Article (one of my favorite shops in Dublin) and quickly fell in love with the modern, minimalistic feeling of the Emma collection. Apparently I’m not the only one, either; the pieces picked up two design awards over the last year. The glossy finish of the jug and curved wood of the handle are a lovely combination. But these designs are more than just pretty; they’re practical too, with great insulation and an inset for easy in-jug brewing.
2. Maple tree adoption from Tonewood
I’m a big fan of Nudo’s adopt-an-olive-tree program, so I was delighted to see the concept applied to one of our New England treasures, the maple tree. With Vermont-based company Tonewood, you can sponsor a tree on a family-run farm in honor of your food-loving friend or relative. In return, Tonewood will send a photo of the tree, an adoption certificate and a variety of artisan maple products. This is a great way to support small farmers and enjoy some tasty treats, all at the same time.
3. Food Huggers
I’m always on the lookout for products that inspire an eco-friendly lifestyle and Food Huggers is one of my new favorite finds. Made from food-safe, BPA-free silicone, they slip over fruits and veggies to help keep them fresh without the need for plastic wrap or bags. These are a great stocking stuffer.
4. Farm to People Tasting Box Subscription
Starting from $149.75 (available only in U.S.)
If you know someone who’s always on the hunt for new foods to try, look no further than Farm to People for your holiday gift. As the name suggests, this company sells unique items from small, artisan producers. You can pick out individual goodies, themed pairings or the gift that keeps on giving, the Tasting Box subscription service. Each month, your recipient will get things like artisan pasta, grass-fed beef jerky and gourmet grape jam. Yum!
5. 30 Years at Ballymaloe
So much more than just a cookbook, 30 Years at Ballymaloe celebrates the history of Ireland’s most famous B&B and cookery school. The book captures everything that makes Ballymaloe so special, from the farm and gardens to the people at the heart of the operation. Although there’s nothing quite like visiting in person, this book brings a little bit of that Ballymaloe magic home, no matter where in the world you live. It’s a treasure trove of inspiration for any home cook.
